Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Black Netbook

Cheap. Small battery lasts 4 hrs. on a charge. Ubuntu is almost as easy as Windows to use, is cheaper and faster. Built-in Wireless "G" works well. 3 USB ports, ext. video out.

Limited solid state HDD size of 8 GB (upgrades to 16 GB and 32 GB are expensive). Ubuntu is not Windows.

Overall Evaluation:

Getting it cheap meant keeping the default 512 MB RAM, 8 GB HDD, no bluetooth and Ubuntu Linux. I ordered bluetooth on my 2nd one. An 8 GB flash Micro SD chip with adapter that fits into the card reader on the side, so now, in addition to the 8 GB system disk (just over 6 GB used with Ubuntu and OpenOffice loaded), I have another 8 GB of storage with no USB device sticking out the side (the flash memory chip fits flush with the side). Small keyboard is nice but takes getting used to for touch typists. Incredibly small and lightweight. So much easier to carry around than a notebook PC. Display res. 1024x600, good for web browsing, word processing, and the dozen games that come pre-loaded. For lightweight netbook to carry to school and on trips, it does the job.
